Tokyo Pearl DC Happy Hour – 1 Foodie

Tokyo Pearl. Situated in Dunpoint Circle Washington DC, Tokyo Pearl, was a beautiful stop for happy hour. Initially chosen for its $7 happy hour. Which I verified online. Only to arrive to an $8 Happy Hour, however, I was NOT leaving.
This asian fusion restaurant offers an $8 Happy Hour Tuesday – Sunday from 4pm-10pm. It does have 2 entrances apparently, the street I entered on lead me to a vibrant first room with a bar area. It would appear they have DJs at times, however, I chose to nestle myself in an outdoor corner. Which while beautiful, masked a lot of mosquitoes. I mean I had 5 bites before I put on a sweatshirt to cover my skin.

Miso soup, Dumplings, Dirty Tots
Committed to the Happy Hour bit, I ordered a Miso soup (my favorite), Japanese Dirty Tots, Chicken Dumplings, Shrimp Tempura Roll, a Peach Lychee Vodka and a Tokyo Peal Punch without orange juice. I can admit, I was feeling the drinks on my departure.
When it comes to the drinks, 10/10. Wonderful flavor, went down smoothly and tasted delicious. When it came to the food, I have questions on the authenticity of this being a happy hour. As of this post 8/25/25 their website still says $7 Happy Hour. I want you to know Miso Soup at Nobu cost $8. So why was miso soup $8? The dirty tots were tasty, as was the miso soup. However I must admit it is one ingredient and a garnish a top to make them “dirty“. The chicken dumplings are $12 for 3 normally, so $8 for 2 is that a deal? However, I did enjoy them and would rate them above an 8. The shrimp tempura roll was actually missing avocado, it was just shrimp and cucumber, and the avocado was noticeably missing.

I did love the drinks! And the atmosphere! The music was a VERY well mix! But for an authentic “Happy Hour”? I paid about $65 with tip (which was included). For 6 items that is fair. While the food was good I just do not feel like this was a happy hour. But I did think the place was adorable and worth visiting, but maybe any time of day week!
